DENS ASI Software is a standardized assessment and data management tool developed by the Treatment Research Institute (TRI) to operationalize the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) within the Drug Evaluation Network System (DENS). It streamlines intake and follow-up interviews, improves fidelity to the ASI, and transforms assessment data into practical information for clinical care, program management, and research.

Key capabilities:

  • Guided ASI administration with built-in definitions, skip logic, and data validation to reduce interviewer error and ensure consistency.
  • Automated scoring, including ASI composite scores, with clear summaries of problem severity across medical, employment, alcohol, drug, legal, family/social, and psychiatric domains.
  • Longitudinal tracking to monitor client progress and treatment outcomes over time.
  • Flexible reporting for clinicians (client summaries and problem lists), program administrators (caseload and performance indicators), and researchers (export-ready datasets and standardized codebooks).
  • Data export options to support program evaluation and external analysis; compatible with DENS network reporting when used in that context.

Designed for addiction treatment programs, health systems, and research teams, DENS ASI Software helps standardize assessment practices, improve data quality, and support evidence-based decision-making across the continuum of care.

DENS ASI Software is developed by Treatment Research Institute. The most popular version of this product among our users is unknown.

I paid the $100 fee for a two license install. I had to have IT support right away due to a software glitch. I had to re-install it again after a computer crash because the first license activation did not reinstall on the same machine. Then the 2nd activation became invalid after an automatic Windows update (routine). This has been infuriating. I will look for other solutions even if I have to pay more.
